My dad has been smoking for more than 30 yrs. Now a mass was found in his lungs. If this is cancer, should he stop smoking abruptly? I heard that if you stop smoking abruptly, then there is a bigger chance of developing cancer. Can anybody confirm this. Is quitting gradually more advisable? Thanks

Lets think this through. Raising taxes is supposed to do two things:
1) Get people to stop smoking.
2) Raise money for health care.
If #1 is successful, what happens to the health care funding?
Remember the funding often goes to unrelated issues like child health care, not always to smoke prevention.

My girlfriend has been smoking for a few years before I came into her life and now since we are at 6 months I told her that I want her to start quitting because I hate smoking.
She has cut down to almost 3 a week when shes around me, but when she is with her friends (current smokers) or is drinking then she chain smokes non-stop.

Hello, my dad is trying (and determined) to quit smoking. Some choices that he is willing to take is Nicoteen Gum, Nicoteen Patch, Chantix, or Cold turkey (when you quit smoking without any help). Please pick the option and list positives and negatives about it.
Oh yeah, and just to let you know, my dad only smokes about 1-2 cigarrettes a day. So he's not a "heavy" smoker. He's just still addicted to it.

How can I help my boyfriend quit smoking?

How can I help him to quit? I want to be supportive and encourage him to do so. I know he gets frustrated and wants to quit but he never seems to do it or take any steps in the right direction. I don't think he knows where to start.

I must be severely addicted because smoking weed has become a part of my everyday life to the extent that i will not go to class, work, or even to get something to eat unless i have smoked some marijuana. I feel like it is so important but when i do smoke it...it doesn't even make me feel very good, sometimes i actually feel worse. I think i am so addicted because it just feels like a routine that i have gotten so used to...i
